About the lab
We study how water, ecosystems, and a changing climate interact, from soil and roots to mountain watersheds.
Our research focuses on how water moves through soils, vegetation, and watersheds, and how these processes respond to environmental change. We combine field observations, remote sensing, physical models, and machine learning to study drought, mountain hydrology, and water quality.
Climate & resilience
Understanding how compound heat and drought reshape water availability, ecosystem vulnerability, and regional heat risk.
Water & ecosystems
Connecting soil, vegetation, and the atmosphere to understand how water moves through changing landscapes.
Sensing & observations
Bringing together satellite observations, wireless sensors, and models to resolve water-cycle processes across scales.
AI & environmental science
Using machine learning and foundation models to improve hydrological and water-quality forecasts when data are limited.
Science & decisions
Translating hydrological understanding into approaches for river connectivity, water allocation, and sustainable management.
